This project was about team building. Numerous design people were involved, including two different architectural firms—one in charge of structural details and the other attending to the nuances of interior design. The architects were picked on the basis of experience for their individual strengths. Skilled craftsmen were given the latitude to express themselves and their craft by assessing and working through details on site as a part of a bigger vision.

The millwork is this home goes on and on, with gentle arches reaching from wall to wall across the entire kitchen and family room area, coming to rest on beautiful tapered columns speaking with certainty that these craftsmen who worked so long and hard on this home were special people within their trade. You will also find various soft elegant archways inviting you into various rooms throughout this lovely home. There are beautiful glass walls made of true divided lights that let spectacular prisms of light through the entire main floor, that act as partitions between the dining room and the adjoining areas.

The owners were looking for a traditional family home that would speak of traditional family values. We tore down a small 1700-square-foot rambler built in the 1940s and replaced it with a two-story home of approximately 4400 square feet, with specific attention paid to early-1900s craftsmanship. It is situated inside the Sandpoint Country Club, right on the golf course and next to a small private park. The challenge was to open up both sides of the house, with one side facing the golf course and the other facing the private park.

The homeowner was interested in a home that required as little ongoing maintenance as possible. The extensive trellis and rails are all built out of powder-coated steel so there will not be issues of rot as time goes by. The design includes lots of Pennsylvania blue stone in the courtyards and hard surface areas, all contributing to a welcoming environment that fit the owner’s goals.
